The National Association of Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers was established 36 years ago to represent the interests of the automotive component manufacturers and is nationally and internationally recognised as the voice of the South African component industry.

NAACAM provides companies with a dynamic forum to formulate policies and take actions that benefit the automotive industry as a whole.

Our services include:

-  Discussions with government on the formulation of policy recommendations concerning the automotive component industry, pertaining to issues such as:
    •    the Automotive Production and Development Programme (APDP) and various other government incentives
    •    international trade agreements (AGOA, SADC-EU EPA, TFTA: SADC/EAC/COMESA, etc.)
    •    the wage bargaining process
    •    the Platinum Group Metals (PGM) beneficiation
    •    the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE), and
    •    other legislative matters.

- Involvement in numerous initiatives, such as Base Operating Standards, World Class Manufacturing, increased localization of components, trade promotion, competitiveness issues, safety and security, etc. under the umbrella of the Automotive Supply Chain Competitiveness Initiative. ASCCI is an organization recently created by NAACAM and other stakeholders to specifically improve the competitiveness and promote the capabilities and interests of component manufacturers.

- Interaction with many related organisations and institutions, notably: NAAMSA (the OEMs), the Automotive Industry Export Council (AIEC), the Retail Motor Industry (RMI), the Motor Industry Development Council (MIDC), the Department of Trade & Industry (the dti), the OEM Purchasing Council, the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC), Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC), the Aluminium Federation of South Africa (AFSA), the Toolmaking Association of South Africa (TASA), the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), the Manufacturing Circle, the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO), the South African Tyre Manufacturers’ Conference (SATMC) and other related sector associations and regional chambers.

- Participation in overseas trade missions (with the dti, the AIDC, etc.) and international trade fairs and exhibitions, such as Automechanika Middle East, Automechanika in Frankfurt and Midest in Paris.

- The hosting of regular networking events, with international participants, at the various local automotive exhibitions and events.

- Promotion of members’ capabilities and achievements through the annual NAACAM directory, the website and the bimonthly newsletter. Copies of the directory are distributed to all South African Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions worldwide to be disseminated to enquiring local companies.  NAACAM Directories are also made available at major automotive shows abroad and locally.

- Access to a large international network of contacts, including foreign automotive organizations. NAACAM also chairs the Automotive Industry Export Council (AIEC) with the objective of promoting exports of vehicles and components.
    
- Networking with other member companies on a national and regional level and addressing issues through the five Regional Committees. The Association has quarterly meetings in its five regions countrywide where members network, build business relationships and hear about the latest developments in the automotive sector.  These regions are East London-Border, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Port Elizabeth-Uitenhage and the Western Cape.

An important aspect of networking is interaction with NAACAM’s Associate Members who provide services to our manufacturers in the areas of financial, government incentives, training, B-BBEE, all aspects of logistics, IT and a wide range of business and professional services.

- Information and advice on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) requirements and opportunities to improve ratings through NAACAM’s professional consultants and joint development programmes.

- Assistance from the AIDC in matters such as training, learnerships, competitiveness improvement and several industry-specific programmes.

- Support for and assistance with the presentation of applications for increased/decreased tariff protection, the introduction of rebate facilities and import/export registration.

- Statistical data and indications of business and economic trends and future expectations to assist you with forward planning.

- Contact with those Government officials who have a direct bearing on the future of the industry.
